About me

Hello, I'm Jessie - the tutor behind JB Tutoring!

Over the past four years, I have worked with students at various stages of their maths journey, from KS1 through to A-level, with a particular focus on GCSE mathematics. I help students strengthen their foundations and develop the tools, techniques, and problem-solving skills needed to approach their exams with confidence rather than panic.

I hold two First Class degrees: a BSc in Mathematics and an MSc in Data Science & Statistics (Maths geek, I know!), and have accumulated over 2,000 hours of tutoring experience. My academic background has given me a deep understanding of the concepts, connections, and reasoning that underpin maths, and this, combined with my passion for the subject, allows me to encourage students' curiosity and help them develop an understanding of why maths works.

Teaching maths for me is about much more than memorising methods, and my lessons reflect this. Every session is designed to help students understand the bigger picture, not just follow steps. If you can coach yourself through a question, explain your reasoning, and understand the logic behind each step, you'll be able to approach unfamiliar exam questions with a clearer strategy and greater confidence.

This leads to the best kind of moments- when a topic finally clicks, and a student moves from "I don't get this at all" to "oh, is that it?!". I create that shift by building a space where students feel comfortable asking questions, getting things wrong, and thinking things through for themselves rather than just copying steps. These moments can make the difference between surviving a topic, and mastering it.

? How tutoring works

A fully interactive online experience

Online lessons are designed to be just as engaging and personal as face-to-face tuition, but without location as a barrier. Students simply need a pen and paper and I take care of the rest, providing the lesson materials, explanations, and guidance.

Using my iPad, I write and annotate live throughout each session so students can see each step clearly, follow each stage of the solution, and discuss their own thinking as we go.

This allows us to focus not only on the maths itself, but also on developing the confidence and skills needed to become independent learners.

No booking system, just message me

I organise all my sessions personally, so you'll always be speaking to me directly, not a calendar app.
